Kitulo National Park on the Kitulo Plateau is known as the 'Serengeti of Flowers' - vast alpine meadows blanketed with endemic orchids and wildflowers after the rains.

The park protects a unique highland ecosystem unlike any other in Tanzania, with excellent hiking and birding on the southern highlands.

Combine with Ruaha or the Iringa cultural sites for a diverse southern itinerary.

Best time to visit: Dec - Apr for wildflowers; Jun - Oct for clear hiking weather

Recommended duration: 1 - 2 days
