Gishwati Mukura is Rwanda's fourth national park, made up of two separate forests - the larger Gishwati and smaller Mukura - in the country's western highlands.
Reforestation efforts have created habitat for chimpanzees, golden monkeys, blue and L'Hoest's monkeys, plus a host of birds and smaller forest animals.
Community-based tourism initiatives let visitors experience conservation success firsthand on guided forest walks and cultural exchanges with neighbouring villages.
