Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Southwest Uganda · Mountain gorilla trekking

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda's oldest rainforests, dating back over 25,000 years and containing almost 400 species of plants.

The forest protects an estimated 459 mountain gorillas - roughly half the world's population - including several habituated groups that can be tracked on guided treks, offering a rare chance to witness them in their natural habitat.

Beyond gorillas, Bwindi is a birding hotspot with endemic species, nature walks through rich biodiversity, and cultural encounters with Bakiga and Batwa Pygmy communities in nearby Buhoma and Nkuringo.
